Day 3 of Excavation

Well, they were back there for yet another day of rock breaking labour. It now looks flat and smooth. For some reason it, doesn't look like what we pictured. We picked up that the wall that they were going to build is a lot higher that we originally though. Made a complaint, and they will be back to fix the levels. See my son in one of the pictures, he is 7 is roughly 1.2metres tall. None of the walls are supposed to be more than 1metre tall. Not only does this make it more expensive, but engagement of engineers is required to properly design a retaining wall.

We Hit Rock Bottom

Thinking the excavators had finished their cut. Two days later they are back at it again. But it seems they hit rock. Ugh, this is going to cost us. When you have a soil test performed, they take several random samples and in hope they will discover nasty things like rock or other things that may make it difficult to build. Well, it seems they missed the rock that was under everything. So it will take several days of rock breaking to excavate the back yard (which is where it is predominantly sitting). That's a bit of a mound to dispose of.

Site Cut

From a boring slopey block of land, the big excavators have been on site and performed a rough cut of the block. We now have a pad for where the house will sit. All vegetation has been removed and probably dug up decades of unexcavated soil.
